Short interview with Dr Adina Villiger

What fascinates you about your work as a surgeon?

It's a very direct profession - you plan something carefully, implement it and see how it works. I like this mixture of technical precision and visible results.

What made you decide to specialise in breast surgery?

In breast surgery, medicine, aesthetics and personal perception come together. I am particularly interested in how individualised the solutions can be - whether reconstructive or aesthetic.

What experience do you have and what techniques or approaches are part of your work?

I have worked at various public hospitals where I have seen and performed a wide range of breast operations. What is important to me is precise planning, natural shaping and the aim of operating with as little tissue damage as possible.

What do you do to ensure that your patients feel that they are in good hands and receive good advice?

I take the time to listen and understand my patients' wishes and concerns. A trusting atmosphere and honest, transparent advice are at the centre of everything I do.

In your opinion, what are the greatest challenges and at the same time the greatest opportunities in modern breast surgery?

One challenge is certainly the flood of information that many patients are confronted with. At the same time, there is the opportunity to provide guidance in a personal consultation and to make individual, well-informed decisions together.

Is there an aspect of your work that often surprises patients?

Many patients are surprised at how varied the options are. There is no fixed procedure, breast surgery is always individualised.

What do you look forward to most in your work at the Breast Atelier?

I look forward to working in a team, to the specialised environment and to looking after patients in a personal setting.

What advice would you give to patients considering breast surgery?

Take your time to make your decision and get good advice. Trust is the basis for a good result.

What is your favourite way to spend your free time?

I like to be out and about in nature. Otherwise, I enjoy good food, spending time with friends and family and quiet moments with an (audio) book.

What "closing words" would you like to end this short interview with?

Every patient has their own story - I look forward to getting to know you, supporting you individually and finding the right path for you together.
