On behalf of Dr Cédric A. George, we are delighted to inform you that Prof. Dr Mario Scaglioni, FMH specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery . Mario Scaglioni, FMH specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, hand surgery and lymphatic surgery, will be joining Plastic Surgery Pyramide (formerly the Pyramid Centre for Plastic Surgery) as Co-Head Physician on 1 November 2023.

His outstanding expertise in the field of lymphatic vessel surgery for lymphoedema is well known in Switzerland. Mario Scaglioni also specialises in microsurgery and supermicrosurgery, head and neck reconstruction, reconstruction of the extremities and breast reconstruction. Due to his expertise, he is often asked to speak at national and international congresses.

Prof Mario Scaglioni studied medicine at the University of Pavia in Italy and completed his basic surgical training in Tel Aviv with Prof Eyal Gur, an internationally renowned reconstructive surgeon. He then spent a year in Taiwan at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where he completed a coveted fellowship under the guidance of Prof. Fu Chan Wei, a world-renowned authority in the field of microsurgery. He also gained experience in lymphatic surgery and published research papers on this topic during his time at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in the USA, Texas.

After these international stations, his path led him to the University Hospital Zurich, where he worked as a senior physician for three years. There, he refined his techniques in lymphatic surgery in particular and successfully completed his habilitation in plastic surgery in 2017, which earned him the title of PD (Privatdozent). After a further three years at the Clinic for Hand and Plastic Surgery at Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS), he was appointed Co-Head Physician and was awarded the title of Titular Professor by the University of Lucerne for his outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
