Bodylifting

A tummy tuck is indicated if excess, sagging skin and fatty tissue remain on the abdomen after massive weight loss or pregnancy. The noticeable excess skin and fat is not only distracting when exercising or choosing clothes, but also contrasts with the rest of the body's proportions. Many sufferers, especially women, have an understandable desire to reduce this unpleasant appearance.

Book an appointment

The operation

On the day of your tummy tuck, you will arrive at the Pyramid Clinic one and a half to two hours before the procedure. You will be prepared for the upcoming procedure by the nursing staff and your doctors. This includes taking "before" pictures and drawing in the contours of your future abdomen. An experienced anaesthetist will explain the planned anaesthetic to you.

The excess and sagging skin and fatty tissue is precisely measured and surgically removed. The necessary incisions are placed in such a way that they are well covered by briefs or a swimming costume. In addition to the external tightening, an internal tightening is often required. This involves tightening the inner abdominal muscles like an internal corset.

The tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthetic and takes about two to three hours. It requires a four-night stay at the Pyramid Clinic.

Aftercare

After the tummy tuck, a special compression girdle is applied, which must be worn for six weeks, especially during the day and when standing. During the first few weeks, you will feel a slight temporary tension in your abdomen and may experience muscle pain due to the additional muscle tightening. Expect to be unable to work for about two weeks. However, the abdominal muscles in particular still need to be protected (e.g. do not lift weights). After approximately six to eight weeks, the scar healing process will also be complete.

Frequently asked questions about abdominoplasty

Are the results of a tummy tuck permanent?

Basically, the more stable the body weight, the greater the chances of a lasting result. Even with slight weight gain, however, a permanent improvement in the body silhouette can be assumed.

Will scars remain visible after a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck usually leaves fine, light-coloured scars that are barely visible after a certain amount of time. Depending on the patient's disposition and wound healing, in rare cases the scars may become thicker and slightly reddened. The incisions required to remove the tissue are placed in such a way that they are well covered by underwear or a swimming costume.

Are there any risks with a body lift?

In principle, every operation harbours certain risks (e.g. drug intolerance, haematoma, wound healing disorders, inflammation, scar problems, numbness). They also depend on the individual's state of health. The doctor will discuss possible risks with you during the consultation and preparatory discussions.

Does the health insurance company pay for this procedure?

A tummy tuck is not usually covered by health insurance. In the case of extreme excess soft tissue on the abdomen after massive weight loss, the health insurance company will contribute to the treatment costs in rare cases.
