Chin correction

(Enlargement / Reduction)

A receding chin often makes the face and especially the profile appear inharmonious and childlike. A prominent chin is considered more attractive, especially in men. However, a receding chin can also reinforce a "double chin" in women or emphasise the nose and make it appear oversized, pointed or simply inappropriate, even though the cause is the receding chin. This can also give the face a "ferret-like" appearance.

A chin correction using a Medpore implant can permanently enlarge the chin and thus harmonise the face.

Chin correction for a protruding chin

The chin correction of a protruding chin (jutting chin, prominent chin (extreme case: "witch's chin")), which also appears very large, can be achieved by reducing the chin by grinding down the prominent chin bone. A prominent chin makes the face look inharmonious and often severe and older. These prominent facial features are sometimes also perceived as unfriendly. By reducing the chin, the face appears more harmonious, softer and friendlier.

Before the procedure, 3D X-ray images of the lower jaw are taken, which can be used to plan and discuss the exact procedure.

This procedure has few complications and can be performed under a short general anaesthetic.

Swelling, bruising and slight pain in the chin area are not uncommon after the treatment. However, this can usually be alleviated by cooling or medication and normally disappears after a few days. It is very rare to experience numbness in the lower jaw or lower lip. However, these are usually only temporary.

The chin operation

Before the actual operation, you will be prepared for the upcoming procedure by the nursing staff and your doctor. This includes taking "before" pictures and drawing in the planned incision and the planned extent of the operation. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic.

The scar lies in the shadow below the chin, is only approx. 2 cm in size and is almost invisible later on.

Aftercare for chin surgery

You can eat liquid food for the first few days after your operation.

Please refrain from hot showers, intensive hair washing and strenuous physical activity for the first 8 to 10 days.

You should also refrain from sporting activities for the first 2 weeks after the operation in order to optimise the healing process. You will be unable to work for seven to ten days.
