Masseter treatment - Facial Slimming
Reduction of the enlarged masseter muscle / facial slimming
Facial slimming (also known as masseter treatment) refers to the optical narrowing of the face through injections into the masseter (masseter muscle). The masseter muscle is one of the four muscles of mastication and runs from the ear via the upper jaw to the lower jaw. It ensures that we can forcefully press our teeth together when chewing. An enlargement of the jaw muscle is usually the result of above-average strain (e.g. due to teeth grinding or frequent chewing of gum) and is visible from the outside as a widening of the jaw. This leads to an "angular" facial shape and is perceived as too "masculine", especially by women.
Facial slimming, in which a muscle relaxant is injected into the posterior masseter muscle, can provide relief without restricting its function. The activity of the masseter muscle is dampened and relaxed so that it slowly recedes. This process leads to a loss of volume in the area of the lower jaw and thus automatically to a narrower facial shape.
Reduced migraine attacks and teeth grinding
Facial slimming not only has aesthetic but also health benefits. By injecting muscle relaxants, migraine attacks can be reduced and teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, can be prevented. In addition, the harmful clenching of the teeth can be minimised by masseter injections.
The results of facial slimming with muscle relaxants are not immediately visible. It takes a few days for the muscle to relax completely, and it can take another 4 to 8 weeks for it to become smaller.
