Breast correction
Following breast reconstruction, various corrective operations may be necessary in the short or long term. Using modern surgical methods, we endeavour to imitate the healthy breast as closely as possible during reconstruction. If necessary, symmetrisation operations should be considered in order to match the shape and size of the healthy breast. Once the shape of the breast has been reconstructed and any necessary adjustments have been made on the opposite side, the reconstruction of the nipple is planned.
Symmetrisation
Immediately after breast reconstruction, the breast is usually still much higher than in the intended position and also feels very firm. It therefore always takes a certain amount of time for the reconstructed breast to reach the correct position. As a rule, a period of at least three months is therefore waited before a symmetrising procedure is performed. This can be a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation. Incidentally, most surgeons prefer to restore the nipple only after symmetrising procedures. In this way, incorrect positioning of the nipple can be avoided.
Nipple reconstruction
The nipple reconstruction procedure is short and hardly stressful. Depending on the method chosen, it can also be performed under local anaesthetic and on an outpatient basis.
