Benign skin tags
Benign skin tags - also known as skin tags or stalk warts (fibromas) - are small, soft skin protrusions that often appear in places where skin rubs against skin: for example on the neck, in the armpits, under the breast or in the groin area.
Skin tags are medically harmless, but are an aesthetic problem for many sufferers or can become uncomfortable due to friction and inflammation.
Origin | Causes
The exact cause is not fully understood, but mechanical friction, genetic predisposition, hormonal influences and obesity are considered to be favouring factors.
Treatments
Although skin tags, stalk warts and similar skin lesions do not generally harbour any health risks, many patients decide to have them removed, particularly for cosmetic or practical reasons.
Various methods are available for removal:
- Surgical removal
- Icing (cryotherapy)
- Electrocoagulation
- Laser therapy
We have specialised in modern laser therapy, as it is particularly gentle, precise and leaves few scars.
Laser therapy for benign skin tags
During laser treatment, the skin tags are specifically removed with the laser beam. The laser beam vaporises the excess tissue with pinpoint accuracy without damaging the surrounding tissue. A local anaesthetic is applied beforehand using a cream or injection.
The advantages of laser treatment at a glance:
- Precise and targeted removal
- No incisions or stitches required
- Low risk of scarring
- Short treatment duration
- Quickly visible results
Aftercare
After treatment, small crusts may appear on the treated areas, which will fall off by themselves within a few days. It is important that you:
- keep the treated areas clean and dry
- avoid direct sunlight for about 4 weeks
- refrain from scratching crusts
- use the skin care cream recommended by your doctor
As a rule, only one session is necessary to achieve the desired results.
Benign skin tags and stalk warts are harmless but often annoying. Our gentle laser treatment offers a safe, effective and aesthetically pleasing way to remove them without the need for a scalpel.
