Age-related warts (seborrhoeic keratoses)

Seborrhoeic keratosis, also commonly known as senile warts, is a benign, light brown to black, wart-like skin change with a rough, fissured surface.

Although they are harmless, they can sometimes be mistaken for malignant skin lesions because of their similarity to moles or skin tumours.

Our gentle laser treatment offers a safe, effective and aesthetically pleasing way to remove them - without the need for a scalpel.

Origin | Causes

Age-related warts typically appear between the ages of 40 and 60 and become more frequent with increasing age. They can appear individually or in groups and occasionally cause itching.

Favourite anatomical locations are the trunk, face, forearms and back of the hands.

Their development is associated with genetic factors, UV radiation and the natural ageing process.

Treatment

Seborrhoeic keratoses can be removed precisely and gently with our laser.

  • The treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and leaves a superficial abrasion that heals within a few weeks.
  • The wound usually heals without scarring.
  • Possible side effects may include redness, swelling or, in rare cases, changes in pigmentation.

Choosing the right type of laser and having it performed by a specialist with laser experience are crucial to the success of the treatment.

Aftercare

The most important aspects of aftercare are

  • Sun protection: Protect the treated area from the sun for at least 4 weeks, use a high sun protection factor (SPF 50+) daily.
  • Wound care: Keep the wound clean, apply the ointment recommended by the doctor, do not scrape off crusts.
  • Swimming/sauna: Avoid for approx. 2 weeks.

Often only one session is necessary to achieve the desired result. For larger age warts, more sessions may be necessary.

Although age warts are harmless, they are often annoying. Our gentle laser treatment offers a safe, effective and aesthetically pleasing way to remove them - without the need for a scalpel.
