Skin firming with Renuvion®

Renuvion® is a revolutionary technique that combines helium gas and radio frequency energy to create a plasma beam. This technology has been on the US market for several years and is already being used in other medical fields, such as buttonhole surgery for tissue-sparing minimally invasive procedures on organs. Its application in aesthetic medicine is new. The cold plasma beam is used to firm and tighten tissue from the inside. Renuvion is most often performed in combination with liposuction, but can also serve as a skin firming procedure on its own.

HOW DOES RENUVION® WORK?

The technique uses a combination of helium gas and radio frequency energy, which generates a plasma beam, known as J-Plasma. This plasma beam is applied to the connective tissue under the skin using a fine cannula. The connective tissue is briefly and rapidly heated by the plasma beam, causing the collagen to contract strongly and stimulating new collagen growth. This treatment, which has been scientifically proven, has a significant and long-lasting firming effect on the skin, without the side effects (e.g., burns) that are otherwise common with laser treatments. The helium gas immediately cools the treated tissue, while the plasma beam heats the connective tissue fibres in a controlled manner. This enables the heat to be absorbed directly.
The contraction of the tissue that creates the firming and tightening effect is so pronounced that it is sometimes visible and noticeable immediately after treatment, even though the final result often takes up to six months.

HOW IS THE RENUVION® TREATMENT PERFORMED?

Most often, Renuvion® treatment is performed in combination with liposuction. Through a 3- to 4-mm opening, a fine cannula is first used to suction out the unwanted fat. Then another very fine cannula is inserted under the skin. This produces the plasma beam at the tip, which causes the skin firming.
Renuvion® treatment can also be performed without prior liposuction. However, here too, the tissue must be prepared with a liposuction cannula, but without performing liposuction. This is known as tunnelling. The cannula with the plasma beam is then inserted.
