The human face expresses our individual personality and character – it is like a personal calling card. The face also reflects the kind of life we lead and provides undeniable evidence of the ageing process.
Demands on facial beauty and expression have increased. Individual regions, such as lips, cheeks or frown lines, are viewed with a critical eye. The personal desire for freshness, glowing skin or more lip volume may be important from a young age.
The formation of facial wrinkles (including forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet) is a result of the repeated contraction of certain facial muscles. Wrinkles form with age because the elasticity of the skin decreases, which in turn is due to various causes such as skin moisture levels, sun exposure, smoking, hormone balance and genetic disposition.

FOREHEAD LINES
Forehead lines – transverse wrinkles also known as worry lines – are a form of expression lines. These lines develop at varying speeds and extents over the years, depending on facial expressions. They are primarily caused by raising the forehead.
FROWN LINES
These lines are caused by the contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows at the root of the nose, e.g. when concentrating hard.
CROW’S FEET
These are small lines caused by facial expressions that form at the outer corners of the eyes. They are also called laugh lines.
BUNNY LINES
Bunny lines are diagonal lines over the bridge of the nose and are caused by facial expression.
CHIN LINES/CHEEK LINES
The skin loses elasticity and volume as a result of the ageing process. Contours shift, especially on the chin. Dark circles appear, and below the cheekbones, lines appear that later become pronounced indentations, known as sunken cheekbones.
However, if there is a significant loss of contour, a face lift should be considered.
VERTICAL NECK LINES
Unwanted vertical neck lines or bands are caused by the thin platysma muscle.
BAGS/DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES
Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by external influences such as stress, too little sleep, etc., but are usually due to genetic disposition. It is common for dark circles to appear as we age, when the subcutaneous fatty tissue in the lower eyelid area breaks down and bone tissue presses against the edges of the orbital cavity. Tear troughs or hollows under the eyes become visible, forming in the lower eye area from the nose outwards. We perceive these as dark circles that can make the face look tired and sad.
We have various treatment options in the Face Atelier, depending on the type and cause of the dark circles. In the medium term, however, bags under the eyes can only be reduced with an eyelid lift.
NASOLABIAL FOLDS
The nasolabial fold runs from the nose to the corners of the mouth. This may become more pronounced due to ageing or loss of fatty tissue.
MARIONETTE LINES
Marionette lines run vertically downwards from the corners of the mouth to the chin. They can give the person’s face a tired or severe expression.
LIP LINES/SMOKER’S LINES
Perioral wrinkles are radial lines that can form above and below the lips. These become deeper over time and are typical for smokers.
Wrinkles can generally be treated in two ways or using a combination of these:
Using a wrinkle relaxer, the muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles are immobilised by means of an injectable medication.

An injectable filler plumps up wrinkles from below to compensate for a loss of volume or contour.
